The Gear I Use In The Field

a Good video not only needs a good story, it also needs depth. The correct gear can make a huge difference in the quality of your birding videos. Now, everyone has their own preference, which brand that they prefer etc.

This is a list of gear I use and hopefully this could guide you and inspire you to lock in when needed.

I prefer Sony as my camera brand of choice, of course. Especially the cameras that hold a wide dynamic range. I am still pretty noob, but thats the gift, you'll never get worse only if you allow it. Practise makes a more imperfect perfect and always aim to improve, strategise and try something new.

Sony A7SIII

Sony a7sIII

The magnificent Sony a7sIII, the camera I use these days to film my stories. It is a great camera for filming birds, it has great low light capabilities, which is most important as a lot of times birds vanish into a thicket or you are filming in the early hours of the morning.

TASCAM DR-05X

TASCAM DR-05X

It is not your highest quality modern audio recorder, but it does what it needs to. It captures quality audio in the field and is very easy to use. I use it mostly to capture background sound and ambience, but it captures pretty good bird calls as well.

DJI Mic 2

The DJI Mic 2, is a wireless microphone system that captures high quality voice audio, it can be combined with a lavalier mic if you are interested in hiding the device, but generally even without the lavalier, just keep it 30cm away from the mouth and you are sorted.
